Girl At War tells the story of Ana Jurić, a careless ten-year-old girl. The year is 1991 and her home is Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. When war breaks out, she finds her world collapsing in on itself. Her life is then marked by the sounds of air raid sirens and sniper fire. In 2001, Ana is a college student in New York. She managed to get out of Croatia, but the memories of the war still haunt her. Trying to deal with her past, Ana returns to her native country. She visits memorable places from her childhood and searches for loved ones she left behind. This honest and heartbreaking story is one that will resonate with the reader for a long time.
